Why We Need to Share Our Stories

Why We Need to Share Our Stories

Once after hearing a particularly fabulous God story from her friend, the lady said, “I’ve never faced the situation you described, but when I hear your story of how God worked, it gives me such hope.”

Stories are powerful. And I have a personal God story I’d like to share with you. Continue reading →

how deep the father’s love for us

how deep the father’s love for us

There’s something about a good song that gets me right in the heart. You know what I mean? The words and the music intertwine to create this powerful message that digs deep.

I felt that way about Stuart Townend’s “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” when I listened to it again last week. The words are amazing, written from the viewpoint of what it cost God to send His cherished Son to the cross for you and for me.

How deep the Father’s love for us

How vast beyond all measure

That He should give His only Son

To make a wretch His treasure

Hearing how Townend came up with the tune and the lyrics is inspiring.

for those days we just need to look up

for those days we just need to look up

I think the times we doubt God most are when we become myopic — incapable of seeing anything beyond the woes and terrible-horribles we’re sinking under today.  When we thrash against them, they just suck us down like quicksand till we’re suffocating and can see only gritty bits through squinted eyes.

I know this is true in my life – easily stuck in the “dire” of today. Sometimes I still flail and fight and fuss at God with flimsy arms and self-righteous thoughts until I’m convinced He cares not for me. That the way I take (of potholes and sandy pits) is foreign to Him, or at best, part of some high and lofty plan that has so little to do with me, I may as well be Continue reading →

So grateful I could just about star in a musical

So grateful I could just about star in a musical

I’ve been steeped in Christmas music and holiday traditions for the last few weeks, loving every minute of this best time of the year.

One of my crazy traditions is watching every single Christmas movie I own.

[standing on my soapbox] The one and only Christmas Carol worth buying is the Albert Finney version. Scrooge is especially despicable in this one, plus it’s a musical, and it’s positively delightful to watch the characters break into song! (Yes, as it so happens, I like opera too – though only in very small doses and preferably in English. Yes, I also realize I’m weird.) [falling off my soapbox] Continue reading →

when life changes keys on you

when life changes keys on you

Sometimes you just don’t understand what God is doing. You think you’re going one direction, walking with Him, talking with Him, and all of a sudden He veers you off into a completely different place.

Me, I sit there for a while kinda dazed, thinking, “But, I thought we were doing that over there, Poppa. What’s up with this here?”

I imagine He chuckles a little Continue reading →
