I just finished one of those books that you never realized how much you needed until you opened it.  Ever found one like that? The kind where the timing’s so perfect you feel heart string tugs as you read?

That’s what John Kralik’s 365 Thank Yous: The Year a Simple Act of Gratitude Changed My Life was for me on Sunday.

He’s honest. He doesn’t sugarcoat things. He just tells his story. Deeply. And it resonates.

You see I don’t have much patience for false Pollyannas anymore who insist we never be less than ultra-smiling with a hearty “Everything’s fine!” on our lips even as life’s knocking us down. Continue reading →

how deep the father’s love for us

There’s something about a good song that gets me right in the heart. You know what I mean? The words and the music intertwine to create this powerful message that digs deep.

I felt that way about Stuart Townend’s “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” when I listened to it again last week. The words are amazing, written from the viewpoint of what it cost God to send His cherished Son to the cross for you and for me.

How deep the Father’s love for us

How vast beyond all measure

That He should give His only Son

To make a wretch His treasure

Hearing how Townend came up with the tune and the lyrics is inspiring.

blindsided by truth in the middle of a movie

I do love a good Hallmark movie. Give me a bowl of popcorn and a sappy, boy-meets-girl-and-together-overcome-impossible-odds-to-live-happily-ever-after, and I’m as happy as a lark.

But, I don’t normally stumble on theology-type truth there. Until last night when I almost fell off the love seat hearing:

You’re hoping that when you finally find the courage to trust that your father never stopped loving you, and you tear open that pain you’ve been carrying around, there’s forgiveness inside.
