for those days we just need to look up

for those days we just need to look up

I think the times we doubt God most are when we become myopic — incapable of seeing anything beyond the woes and terrible-horribles we’re sinking under today.  When we thrash against them, they just suck us down like quicksand till we’re suffocating and can see only gritty bits through squinted eyes.

I know this is true in my life – easily stuck in the “dire” of today. Sometimes I still flail and fight and fuss at God with flimsy arms and self-righteous thoughts until I’m convinced He cares not for me. That the way I take (of potholes and sandy pits) is foreign to Him, or at best, part of some high and lofty plan that has so little to do with me, I may as well be Continue reading →

calling wishful water walkers

calling wishful water walkers

I’ve long been fascinated by the life of George Mueller. You know, the prayer warrior who never asked a soul for a dime but prayed to God to meet even daily needs like food. And God did.

If you know anything of his story, you’ve probably been tempted to stand in awe of Mueller like I have. To envy the way he saw God work. To think he must’ve discovered a secret path to God’s ear. To wonder if he was endowed with a grand faith, larger than the type most of us carry.  He was so greatly used of God, after all, through mission work, Bible teaching, tract publishing, and of course, the multiple orphan houses he founded.

But, in his writings Mueller emphasized over and over that he didn’t want to be considered “extraordinary.” Continue reading →

My theme for this year

My theme for this year

I love January 1st. The prospect of new beginnings and a fresh start always fills me with great hope. Who knows yet what this year has in store? Probably wild, wonderful things are just around the corner!

I was looking back at my Grace Journal and reminding my soul of what God has done when I came across my favorite entry from this past year. Continue reading →

blooming in belief – part 1

blooming in belief – part 1

I don’t want to go all library geek on you, but I LOVE word meanings. I get awed thinking God didn’t just throw random Bible words together. Doesn’t it blow your mind to know He carefully selected each word so you and I could understand and know His heart?

Anyway, I’ve been longing to put this verse from Romans 15 on my wall for a few months now – ever since I splashed knee deep into the word meanings.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Let me tell you about some of the hidden treasures I found. Continue reading →

my bright hope for you & me today

my bright hope for you & me today

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. 1 John 4:16

It’s one thing to hear something. It’s another to know something. But it’s a different thing all together to believe it!

My hope for us, grace friend, is just like John’s —

that you and I would know and BELIEVE the love God has for us.

That it would lodge in our heads so we can’t stop thinking about it, and then trickle down to our hearts and our elbows and our knee caps until every part of us is snuggled up in the believing.

That our whole beings would wake up every day secure in being loved by God.
