So grateful I could just about star in a musical

I’ve been steeped in Christmas music and holiday traditions for the last few weeks, loving every minute of this best time of the year.

One of my crazy traditions is watching every single Christmas movie I own.

[standing on my soapbox] The one and only Christmas Carol worth buying is the Albert Finney version. Scrooge is especially despicable in this one, plus it’s a musical, and it’s positively delightful to watch the characters break into song! (Yes, as it so happens, I like opera too – though only in very small doses and preferably in English. Yes, I also realize I’m weird.) [falling off my soapbox]

Albert Finneys ScroogeMy favorite song on Albert Finney’s Scrooge is “Thank You Very Much.”  This year I caught myself laughing out loud as I realized that I feel like singing it to Poppa on this most special grace day of all when we celebrate His Son’s birthday.

Thank you very much.

Thank you very much.

That’s the nicest thing that anyone’s ever done for me.

It seems a bit bizarre,

But things the way they are

I feel as if another life’s begun for me.

Grace does look bizarre from the outside but is nothing short of life changing. It gives each of us new life – not just in eternity but right now, TODAY, in our little everyday – if we let it.

Today I’m singing to Poppa for His priceless gift of grace. If I had a cannon to fire or a banner to wave or a bugle to blow, I would . . .

But since I left me bugle at home

I simply have to say

Thank you very, very, very much.

 Janna, Grateful Believer

P.S. Merry Christmas! May you enjoy God’s greatest Gift of Grace today especially.
